Path Keeper Privacy Policy

Introduction

Last Updated: October 13, 2026

Path Keeper ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we access, how it is used, where it is stored, and the choices you have when using Path Keeper.

Please review this Privacy Policy before using Path Keeper. If you do not agree with the described practices, you may stop using and uninstall the application.

Current Functionality

Path Keeper currently provides local route tracking, current-position display, background and screen-locked tracking during an active session, activity history, route playback, route rename and deletion, fitness totals, personal bests, GPX export and sharing, activity backup and restore, and offline map downloads.

Path Keeper has no user accounts or cloud synchronization. The Android version includes Google AdMob for banner and App Open advertising and Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) for consent and privacy choices. Path Keeper does not include a separately integrated analytics SDK or crash-reporting service.

Location Information

Path Keeper accesses your precise location when you use the map and offline-map features and when you start a tracking session.

During an active tracking session, location access continues in the background, while the screen is locked, and if the application process is no longer visible, so the route can continue to be recorded. Path Keeper stops its tracking service when you stop the session.

Recorded route points may include latitude, longitude, altitude, horizontal or vertical accuracy, speed and speed accuracy, bearing, capture time, device elapsed time, route segment, and filter-version metadata. Path Keeper uses them to draw your route, preserve GPS gaps, and calculate distance, duration, average speed, maximum speed, and route history.

Recorded tracking history is stored in the application database on your device and is not uploaded to a Path Keeper server.

Online Maps and Google Maps

When online, Path Keeper uses Google Maps to display the map. Map requests communicate the viewed area to Google. The Google Maps SDK processes technical information including IP address, device and SDK metadata, SDK identifiers, diagnostics, and map interactions to operate and improve its services.

Google handles this information under its Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. Mapbox handles its map-service information under https://www.mapbox.com/legal/privacy. You can access Mapbox attribution and its telemetry choices through the information button on Mapbox maps.

Activity Backup and Restore

When you export an activity backup, Path Keeper creates an unencrypted JSON file containing activity records, precise route points, timestamps, pause intervals, splits, and saved metadata such as selected activity mode, onboarding acceptance, and launch count. Temporary backup and restore files are prepared in private application cache.

You select the destination using the Android system file picker. A selected cloud document provider may upload the file under its own privacy practices. Path Keeper does not operate a cloud backup service. Backups exclude offline map tiles, advertising consent, and device permissions.

You can select a backup for validation and explicitly restore supported activities into local storage. Restore adds activities without replacing existing ones; equivalent activities already present are skipped. Existing settings and onboarding choices are preserved rather than replaced by backup metadata. Protect your backup files because anyone with access can read sensitive route information. Deleting an activity or uninstalling Path Keeper does not delete exported GPX files or backups held elsewhere; delete those copies separately.

Offline Map Data

Path Keeper uses the Mapbox Maps SDK and downloads map styles, tiles, terrain and related resources for an area around your current location. Internet access is required to obtain an area for the first time and to obtain areas or resources that have not already been downloaded.

Downloaded offline map resources are stored in Mapbox-managed local storage on your device. Once the required resources are downloaded, supported map content for that area can be displayed without an active internet connection.

Offline-map requests are made to Mapbox. The requested map area, your IP address, device or application information, and de-identified location or usage telemetry may be processed by Mapbox under its own privacy terms. Offline map files do not contain your saved Path Keeper route-history database.

Permissions We Request

Precise and Approximate Location: Used to display your current position, determine which map area to download, record your route, and calculate route statistics.

Background Location: Used only to continue an active route-recording session when the application is in the background, the screen is locked, or the application is not visible.

Notifications: Used to display the ongoing foreground-service notification while route tracking is active.

Boot Completed: Allows Android to restart route tracking after a device reboot only when the local database shows that a tracking session was active before the reboot.

Wake Lock: Allows Android to support reliable processing while the tracking service is active.

Battery Optimization: Optional. Path Keeper may ask you to exempt the application from Android battery optimization to improve long-distance and background tracking reliability. You can decline or reverse this choice in system settings.

Internet and Network State: Used to load Google Maps and download Mapbox map resources, check whether an offline download can begin, open support, privacy, terms, or social links that you choose, request consent information, and load eligible banner ads.

How We Use Information

Path Keeper uses location and route information to provide current-position display, route recording, background tracking, route history, route playback, statistics, GPX export, and offline-map coverage.

Path Keeper does not use your precise GPS location, saved routes, route names, GPX files, or tracking statistics to request, personalize, or target advertisements.

Eligible Android ad requests are configured as non-personalized, limited to a maximum Google content rating of G, and use the same restrictive child-directed settings for every user.

The current Mapbox SDK sends de-identified location and usage telemetry to Mapbox by default to provide and improve Mapbox services. This is third-party map-service telemetry and is not a separately integrated Path Keeper analytics or crash-reporting service.

Local Storage and Retention

Path Keeper stores tracking sessions and route points in a local SQLite database named pathkeeper.db. It also stores onboarding acceptance in Android application preferences, a non-sensitive application launch counter and a record of which tracking permissions it has requested in local AsyncStorage, offline map resources in Mapbox-managed storage, and temporary GPX files in the application cache. The selected activity mode is also stored locally. Google UMP may store consent and privacy-choice state on the device.

Route history remains on your device until you delete an individual route, clear the application data, or uninstall the application. Deleting a route removes its session and recorded points from the Path Keeper SQLite database.

Offline map resources remain until Android, Mapbox cache management, application-data clearing, or uninstallation removes them. Temporary GPX files may be removed when the application or Android clears its cache.

Path Keeper does not currently provide cloud backup or synchronization of your tracking history.

GPX Export and Sharing

When you choose to share a route, Path Keeper creates a GPX file in the local application cache containing the route name, coordinates, elevation, and timestamps, then opens the Android share chooser.

Path Keeper does not send the GPX file automatically. The application or service you select to receive the file will handle it under that provider's own terms and privacy policy.

Contact and External Links

When you choose Email Support, Path Keeper opens your email application with the support address and subject. Path Keeper receives only the information you decide to send in that email.

Privacy, Terms of Use, and social-profile buttons open external websites. Those websites and applications may process information under their own privacy policies.

Error Logging, Analytics, and Crash Reporting

The current version may write technical messages to normal JavaScript or Android system logs for development and troubleshooting. Path Keeper does not currently upload those logs to a Path Keeper server.

Path Keeper does not currently integrate Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Sentry, Crashlytics, or another separate analytics or crash-reporting SDK.

Google Maps SDK diagnostics, Mapbox telemetry described above, and technical advertising data processed by Google AdMob or UMP are part of their respective third-party SDKs and are separate from Path Keeper error logging.

Data Sharing

Path Keeper does not sell your personal information or sensitive location data.

Path Keeper does not share your precise location, saved route history, route names, or GPX files with advertisers. Google AdMob and UMP may process technical information needed to provide, secure, measure, and limit ads, such as IP address, device and application information, consent state, ad impressions or interactions, and diagnostics, under Google’s own terms and privacy policy. Android advertising ID permission is removed from Path Keeper.

Other information is shared only when you deliberately export or send it, when third-party services such as Mapbox process data required to provide their features, or when disclosure is required by applicable law.

Data Security

Path Keeper keeps route history in private application storage and disables Android application backup for the current Android release. Internet requests use the security provided by Android and the relevant third-party service.

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. However, no storage system or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your Choices

You control when a tracking session starts and stops. You can revoke permissions, re-enable battery optimization, delete individual saved routes, choose whether and where to share GPX files, clear application storage, or uninstall the application.

Revoking location, background location, or notification permission may prevent route tracking from starting or continuing reliably.

Where Google UMP determines that privacy options are required, Settings displays an “Ad privacy choices” option. Ads are not requested while the required consent state is unresolved. Core tracking features remain available if consent is declined, an ad cannot load, or the advertising service is unavailable.

Because Path Keeper does not operate user accounts or a cloud route-history service, privacy requests generally concern information processed by third-party services. You can contact us using the address below for questions about the application’s privacy practices.

Children's Privacy

Path Keeper is intended for users aged 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. If you are under the age required by your local laws to provide consent, use the application only with any legally required permission or supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

Path Keeper does not operate a server for collecting or storing route history. Third-party map and advertising services process information as described in this Policy. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the application, please contact us using the address below.

All eligible Android ad requests use the same restrictive child-directed settings, are non-personalized, and are limited to the G content rating.

Advertising

The Android version may display Google AdMob banner ads below My Activities, below Settings, and above the About Path Keeper, Contact Us, and Privacy content. Starting with the second application launch, one App Open ad may also be shown after the main application interface becomes available and a short display delay has elapsed. App Open ads are limited to one attempt per cold application session and may be requested whether or not route tracking is active, but are only shown after checking that recording is idle.

Ads are not shown during onboarding, on route details, or over edit, share, delete, or permission interfaces.

Path Keeper requests non-personalized ads only. It does not send GPS coordinates, saved routes, route names, GPX content, or tracking statistics in an ad request. Google may still use limited contextual and technical data to deliver and measure non-personalized ads.

Users continue to receive location tracking functionality regardless of advertisements. An ad failure, lack of eligible consent, or unavailable advertising service does not block core application features.

Future optional cloud synchronization or materially different advertising practices will be disclosed before release and this Policy will be updated as appropriate.

Third Party Services

Path Keeper uses Google Maps for online maps; Mapbox to provide maps, map styles, terrain, map downloads, and related SDK functionality; Google Play services to obtain Android device location updates; Google AdMob to provide eligible Android banner and App Open ads; and Google UMP to request consent information and provide required privacy choices.

Third-party services process information under their own terms and privacy policies. Path Keeper will review this Policy if the set of production third-party services changes.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect application, legal, or third-party service changes.

When changes are made, the "Last Updated" date will be revised.

Summary

Path Keeper is designed with local-first privacy as a priority.

Your saved tracking history remains on your device unless you deliberately export or share it or choose a future optional feature that clearly requires transmission.

We are committed to being transparent about how your information is used.
